More than 85 medical teams affiliated with the Directorate of Communicable and Chronic Diseases are present in the shelter centers that have been allocated in the affected governorates in response to the situation resulting from the occurrence of the earthquake, according to the Director of Communicable and Chronic Diseases, Dr. Zuhair Al-Sahwi.

Dr. Al-Sahwi explained in a statement to SANA that the teams are working around the clock in coordination and cooperation with other relevant authorities in implementing preventive measures to prevent the occurrence and spread of infectious diseases and monitor food preparation places in centers and gatherings, pointing to conducting a field survey for all shelter centers to determine the necessary needs for medicines. Vaccines and medical supplies.

The investigation teams working in the concerned health directorates, according to Dr. Al-Sahwi, are following up on implementing the necessary health procedures and measures to prevent and combat infectious diseases and to promote raising community awareness about preventing communicable diseases and following up on disease cases, stressing that no diseases have been monitored or recorded in the shelters.

Dr. Al-Sahwi indicated that an early warning and rapid response form for disasters was designed, which includes complete information about the shelter, the condition of its water and sanitation facilities, cases of disability, identification of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart diseases, in order to provide them with the necessary medicines, and to report priority diseases such as diarrhea, paralysis, respiratory infections, leishmaniasis, and others.

According to Al-Sahwi, the teams work to avoid the spread of epidemics by providing appropriate environmental conditions in shelter centers, monitoring drinking water, distributing chlorination pills for drinking water in shelter centers and gatherings, monitoring the safe disposal of sewage, controlling insect vectors, and epidemiological surveillance of infectious diseases, especially those that have the ability to cause epidemics such as diarrhea and cholera. typhoid fever and hepatitis A in shelters and gatherings.
