“Carnival is an important moment for sociability and cultural life in Nantes since it brings together around 50,000 spectators at each parade.
It is also and above all a great recognition for all the volunteers who put their passion and their know-how at the service of the carnival”,

Appeared in 1880, the event, one of the oldest in France, is behind the Nice Carnival in terms of attendance.
Each year, floats and big heads enliven the streets of Nantes during the two parades.
This year, the event promises a special edition to celebrate its selection as the European Capital of Carnivals.
It will take place on April 2, 8 and 15 under the theme “Nantes, its history and its imagination”.
400 volunteers
A major event in Loire-Atlantique, it monopolizes around 400 volunteers, from many trades.
In addition to the builders of the tanks and the big heads, dressmakers, make-up artists, last-minute electricians, crane operators, forklift operators, tank drivers, amateur choreographers or volunteer dancers… are busy preparing for it from September.
Totally free, the festivities attract an average of 50,000 spectators, delighted both by the daytime parade opening the carnival and by the nighttime parade closing it.
Not to mention the children's ball which offers an outdoor concert for young audiences and entertainment.
