The chairman and CEO of the corporation respond sharply to the Minister of Communications: Your letter should not be seen as anything other than an attempt to act as a censor

"Since its establishment, the corporation has not received a letter of this kind from any Minister of Communications, regardless of its political or party affiliation, and for good reason"

"We regretfully received your letter, which should be seen as nothing more than an attempt by a political party to act as a censor on a professional and decent media body. The letter, it seems, is the culmination of an ongoing process, on your part and on the part of someone on your behalf, to harm in any way the Israel Broadcasting Corporation and the extraordinary achievements it has achieved since then Its establishment", this is how the Chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation Gil Omer and the CEO of the Corporation Golan Yokhpaz write this evening (Wednesday).

Earlier today Shigar Karai sent a letter to the members of the corporation's board, claiming that the Public Broadcasting Corporation violates the provisions of the Public Broadcasting Law in the way it covers the legal reform.

In the letter, Omer and Yochpaz further state that "the Israeli Public Broadcasting Law, 2014-1774 prevents interference of any kind by political parties and officials in the content broadcast by the corporation, and emphasizes the necessity of maintaining its full independence.

It is not for nothing that the corporation's broadcasts are defined as public broadcasting and not government broadcasting.

Since its establishment, the corporation has not received a letter of this kind from any Minister of Communications, regardless of his political or party affiliation, and for good reason.

"Despite all of this we will make it clear - we completely reject the claims arising from your letter. The Israel Broadcasting Corporation is the balanced and diverse media body in Israel - both in terms of its employees and in terms of its content, it meets all the requirements and goals of the law and even beyond that, and receives public sympathy and trust across sectors, Ages, opinions and views. Even if there are problems or malfunctions, they will be solved by the professionals of the corporation, without the intervention of political parties and without external pressure."

The two also write: "Your latest letter is added to your public statements and trending leaks. The common denominator for all of these is a heavy feeling, because since you took office, most of your time has been subject to damage to the corporation and its employees: with the repeated threats that it should be closed immediately, with attempts to damage the original productions here, with attempts To introduce clauses into the Settlements Law that hinder his actions, and more recently, with the desire to detract from his broadcasting frequencies and bring about the closure of radio stations and in an attempt to prevent the corporation from broadcasting advertisements and sponsorships. The Israel Broadcasting Corporation will continue to operate in a decent, professional and independent manner."

As you may recall, in his letter the minister mentioned a number of examples of the corporation's content regarding the legal reform, as recently broadcast, from which it appears that "the corporation is grossly trampling on its legal duty and seriously harming the public interest on whose behalf it claims to broadcast."

In light of this, the minister demanded that the members of the corporation's council "fulfill their duty and make use of the public resource entrusted to them in a way that will serve the entire population and in a way that will bring to light the diversity of opinions in the Israeli public."
