The former Palestinian prime minister, Abu Alaa, died at the age of 85 - voila! news

The Palestinian Authority has announced the death of Ahmed Kirei, who was one of the architects of the Oslo Accords, and served as Prime Minister from 2003 until his retirement in 2006. Abu Ala was involved in most of the rounds of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. Tzipi Livni: "We tried together to bring peace to our people with the understanding that we have responsibility for the future of our children"

The former Palestinian Prime Minister, Ahmed Kriya (Abu Ala), died last night (Wednesday) at the age of 85. Abu Ala was one of the architects of the Oslo Accords, and was a member of the Palestinian negotiating team in several rounds over the years. Kriya, born in 1937, grew up in Abu Dis in East



Jerusalem , and joined Fatah in 1968.

In 1988, Abu Alaa was elected to the PLO's executive committee. Former PA chairman Yasser Arafat appointed him prime minister after the resignation of Abu Mazen.

After the victory of Hamas in the elections in 2006, Abu Ala resigned from his position.



Abu Alaa was the head of the negotiating team with Israel from 2007 to the beginning of 2009, during the Ehud Olmert government.

The then Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni expressed her condolences on his death.

"I was sorry to hear about his death," Livni wrote on Twitter.

"Together we tried to establish peace between our peoples with the understanding that we have a responsibility to create a better future for our children."
