The Sallent twins who jumped from a third floor received psychological support from the institute and the social services followed their case

The Department of Education of the Generalitat "does not contemplate" that the sisters suffered 'bullying' in the educational center

The twin girls from Sallent (Barcelona) who fell on Tuesday from a third floor received psychological care at the Llobregat institute, where they studied, according to what the mayor of the municipality, Oriol Ribalta, said on Wednesday.

The two 12-year-old girls —one of them died and the other is in critical condition— were also on the radar of municipal social services due to a complicated social and family situation.

Up to now, the Department of Education denies that, as students from the same institute and several relatives say, they suffered bullying.

The Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating all the circumstances related to the events.

On the balcony, the agents found two chairs, and in the house, two handwritten letters from the sisters, which are being analyzed.

At the time of the event,

The girls' family, born in Argentina, had settled in the municipality about two years ago and received care from social services.

“We don't know if the father worked;

but the mother does”, commented the mayor.

Sources from the minors' environment explained that one of the sisters was in a gender reconsideration process, which could lead to uncomfortable situations in the school environment.

"She cut her hair short and asked to be called Iván," said a young man from the institute where they studied.

"And some called her Ivana," he adds.

Education sources assure EL PAÍS that "neither the territorial services of the department nor the center are currently contemplating the bullying hypothesis

"

based on the information collected on Tuesday.

Ribalta agrees on the same thesis, although he admits that the investigation requires time.

However, a relative of the minors, according to Europa Press, assured journalists that they "suffered from

bullying

and depression" and that the school was aware of their adverse situation.

EL PAÍS has not been able to contact the director of the Llobregat institute.

It has not been easy to manage the day after at the educational center.

Some Baccalaureate classes and training cycles have finished early.

And the content of the subjects has also been different: "Today we have not done a normal class because we are all shocked, with little desire," admitted a student.

The teachers have prioritized reflection dynamics rather than giving more academic sessions, and the atmosphere outside the institute was muted.

The municipality has observed a minute of silence this Wednesday at noon in memory of the deceased young woman.

Some 100 people have gathered outside the Town Hall, where the mayor has asked for the "maximum respect" for the family and that "false information not be disseminated."

The Consistory decreed three days of mourning and suspended all scheduled public events, including Carnival.

"It is a shocking and painful event for the whole of our population," say municipal sources.

The case of young Kira

The Sallent event recalls the case of Kira, the 15-year-old girl who committed suicide after allegedly being bullied at a school in Barcelona.

Her parents have assured this Wednesday that they will take "new legal actions" by civil means with witnesses and reports after the Barcelona Court has filed the criminal case.

The mother of that young woman, María José López, has explained to Europa Press that they feel "relieved" that she has completed the part through criminal proceedings because she, she says, knew that she had no path.

"What has really been archived is the investigation for the crime of induction to suicide since it was not possible to establish a direct relationship between the episodes of bullying and other types of violence suffered by Kira," she added.

In addition, she maintains that "bullying has not been ruled out, on the contrary,

Specialists remember that suicide does not usually have a single trigger, but is the result of psychological, biological and social factors that have treatment.

People with suicidal behavior can call 024, a Suicidal Behavior Hotline set up by the Ministry of Health.

They can also contact the Telephone of Hope (717 003 717), dedicated to the prevention of this problem.
