At the Brauneck in Wegscheid, tourers have been asked to pay a parking fee of 20 euros since the beginning of the carnival holidays.

The lift operators have been badly insulted because of this.

Wegscheid

– glorious weather at Brauneck.

The thermometer climbs to almost 15 degrees and the sun is shining brightly.

On the Draxl and Jaudenhang there are still numerous children's ski courses.

Despite the poor snow conditions, the rush is great.

But about a hundred meters before the parking lot, it's time to stop.

A young man collects 20 euros per car there.

“Parking fees are deducted from the purchase of a lift ticket.

The 20 euros will be deducted at the checkout,” he explains in a friendly manner.

Lift operators: want to have enough parking space for our customers

"For us, this regulation was the only way to enable our customers to park during the busy carnival holidays," says Andreas Adlwarth.

He is the operator of the Jaudenhang lift and host of the Jauden-Stadl.

"Meanwhile, so many ski tourers park their cars in our parking lots, don't buy a lift ticket, and our customers - mostly families with children - can see if they can get a parking space at all," he explains the decision.

Due to the mild temperatures, you can only offer the parking spaces on the paved area as parking anyway.

Wegscheid: High parking prices for tourers are already known

Together with his neighbor on the slope, Josef Gerg, he has implemented this regulation since the weekend.

"It doesn't affect those who buy a ticket.

If you show your parking receipt, you will be refunded the amount,” says lift operator Gerg.

He sits at the cash desk of the Draxlhang.

“We have already achieved the desired effect,” he says with satisfaction.

Word of the 20-euro day ticket at Brauneck has already gotten around in touring circles.

"A lot of people came at the weekend, but some turned around because they didn't want to pay the parking fees," he explains, shrugging his shoulders.

"It's your right." However, according to Gerg, it is also his right to ensure that his customers find a pleasant parking situation.

Since the beginning of the week, the rush of tourers in Wegscheid has flattened out significantly,

Insulting expressions - Park attendants need "thick skin"

Adlwarth is a few meters away at his ticket booth.

He points towards the parking lot.

"It's still full here, this morning I even had to allow parking on the side of the road so that all skiers can find a place." He feels confirmed in his actions.

"Even if not everyone reacted positively to the high fees," he says with an embarrassed grin.

"The parking attendants at the front have needed a thick skin over the past few days," confirms Gerg.

"Sometimes they scolded us like pipe sparrows - but we expected that." Adlwarth sometimes stood up to collect the money himself.

"Some got really abusive and used very offensive language and asked if we were clean," he says.

The parking fees are an incentive for more people to carpool

Markus Müller, ski tourer from Munich

Winter sports enthusiasts still have different opinions on parking fees.

Markus Müller from Munich is a passionate skier and tourer.

But he is often drawn to the Brauneck.

He too had heard in advance of the increased parking fees.

"I think the regulation is actually quite good," says the 32-year-old doctor.

He thinks it's absolutely fair to pay parking fees for touring.

"After all, you use the groomed pistes when you go downhill, and the lift operators are entitled to a fee." He sees another positive aspect with regard to the environment.

Because: "The parking fees are an incentive for more people to carpool."

Katrin Unterlechner (58) sees things differently.

The gymnastics teacher from Munich is just unbuckling her skis and heading towards the car after a tour.

She was shocked about the parking fees in the morning.

"20 euros are outrageous." She doesn't mind paying for parking, says Unterlechner.

“But four times as before?

That's too much." She lacks a clear justification from the lift operators.

Next time, the Munich native is certain that she will park her car in town and cycle to the slope.

Katrin Forkel from Miesbach is also surprised by the price increase.

"I think 10 euros would be fine," she says.

The 40-year-old also sees a danger if parking prices are too high.

"It could become problematic if inexperienced tourers now look for other places and then go on unsafe routes",

Lenggries-Wegscheid: lift operators are looking for a permanent parking solution: "not easy"

Michael Geyer, host of the Bayernhütte on the Brauneck, has already felt the effects of the increased fee.

Since then, fewer tourers have come to see him.

"Therefore, I now offer that I waive 10 euros from the bill if I show a daily updated parking receipt," explains the restaurateur.

This is well received by tourers.

"Because we are open daily all year round, independent of the mountain railway, we are a popular destination for tourers.

That's why we want to accommodate them now," explains Geyer.

Adlwarth and Gerg stick to their rules – at least until the end of the holidays.

"I don't know how things will continue after that," says Gerg.

"In the long term, we will consider whether to introduce a uniform parking system with machines or how we will deal with it from the coming season," says Adlwarth.

Finding a fair solution for everyone is not that easy.

"But we'll manage that, too," he says with a wink.
