Security camera footage from the capital's international airport shows passengers fleeing in panic, parts of the ceiling falling and lights going out as a result of the earthquake.
At this time, no casualties or significant damage to buildings have been reported across Tajikistan or China.
The earthquake was also felt in parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
