The writer Gioconda Belli, one of the people whom the Daniel Ortega regime sentenced on February 16 for "treason against the homeland" and stripped of Nicaraguan nationality, accepted the offer of the Chilean government to to adopt the nationality of this country.
The Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonia Urrejola, confirmed the writer's decision on her Twitter account, with whom she had a telephone conversation.
In addition, she expressed her deep admiration for Belli, author of the novel "The inhabited woman" and the collection of poems "My intimate multitude", among other works.

On Sunday, February 19, days after being stripped of her nationality, Belli cut a page from her Nicaraguan passport during an interview broadcast live by the Spanish network RTVE Noticias, as a protest against the measure adopted by the Ortega government.
"Let it be clear that they are not going to intimidate me and that I am not going to stop being who I am because I do not have this document," said the writer before the television cameras, while cutting her passport with scissors.
It should be remembered that since the stripping of Nicaraguan citizenship from activists and political opponents in conflict with the Ortega regime became known, the governments of Argentina, Mexico, Colombia and Spain have also offered to grant nationality to those affected by the measure.
