Concern in the security system: "The police will find it difficult to deal with the accumulation of events" | Israel today

The IDF and the police are preparing for a stormy month in three areas: Ramadan, Passover and the protest against the reform.

The legal reform has slightly diverted attention in recent days from the intense security tensions in East Jerusalem and Yosh - but it does still exist, and may even escalate.

The security establishment is preparing for the possibility of further escalation during Ramadan, in a month, and is beginning to take proactive actions in order to prevent terrorists from carrying out their plot under the auspices of the holiday.

This year, the challenge that will be faced by the fighters is threefold: the month of Ramadan, which began on March 22, is already considered tense, especially when in the background there is a breakwater operation.

At the same time, April 5th will be Passover, followed by Holocaust Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day, which are considered attractive by terrorists to carry out show attacks.

To this must be added the social protests, which are currently sweeping away tens of thousands of people, and which also require personnel for policing.

Sources in the security system say that the triple requirement for securing mass events could make it difficult for the forces in the field.

"We are talking about more centers that will stretch the fighters to the limit. The police do not have enough personnel anyway, and certainly with a backlog of such incidents."

Although Ramadan will fall in a month, in practice the IDF has already begun operations in preparation for it, out of a desire to stabilize the area and prepare the fighters for the Muslim holiday. .

Even at the intelligence and operational level, they are working in the field in order to be prepared for a situation of escalation.

The desire on the part of all parties is to reach Ramadan as prepared as possible, because if one attack occurs - it may bring imitators who will carry out inspired attacks.

In recent times, the IDF and the Israel Defense Forces have been working more significantly in the preventive arrests of those who may incite and provoke the discourse, with the understanding that incitement is a critical part of what causes individual terrorists to launch an attack.

Among other things, the police will carry out an offensive activity on the network to monitor videos on Tiktok and arrest instigators, an activity that already proved itself well last year.

At the same time, in the run-up to Ramadan, informational videos will be released, the purpose of which is to congratulate the celebrants and convey that it is a holiday for all, but at the same time to make it clear that the security forces will act massively against instigators and terrorists.

In preparation for Ramadan and Passover, additional forces will be sent to Yosh and Jerusalem. In Yosh, dedicated forces will be stationed in tense areas, along the seam line and in places where mass Jewish events will take place.

Several reserve companies of the Mageb will be stationed in Jerusalem, along with the deployment of the tactical brigade and the internal security brigade. There are already two reserve companies in Jerusalem.

Emphasis will be placed on the Old City and the Temple Mount.

The decision whether to allow men of all ages to go up to the Temple Mount during Ramadan will be made later by the political-security cabinet, in light of the situation on the ground.

On Fridays during Ramadan, between 60,000 and 70,000 Muslim worshipers are expected to arrive, so many forces will be deployed in the Old City, and an inspection will be carried out on buses from Yosh to the capital.

Last year, three armed terrorists tried to murder fighters at the Salem crossing, and last week, a security guard was killed in an attack after an Arab boy tried to stab him inside a bus, so this is a significant threat.
