In a conversation with Prof. Yehoash Hirschberg he said: "I don't want to talk about politics, I prefer not to get into politics. I am of course very happy to receive the award. I am already 85 years old and this is already a summary of my life, I am happy that what I have done is recognized."
In its reasoning, the award committee stated that: "Professor Hirschberg established himself, during the jubilee years of fruitful research, as a leading music researcher in the local and international arena, and made a significant contribution to the study of original artistic work in Israel, with comprehensive studies on music in the history of the settlement, as well as monographs on composers from Paul Ben Life and up to the creators of life with us today.
The committee also noted that "Prof. Hirschberg brought the hearts of many listeners closer to art music from the Renaissance period to the present day. During his many years as a lecturer, he raised generations of music researchers who are making a difference in Israel and the world."
