These nine individuals are suspected of having kidnapped and assaulted a man in order to extort 100,000 euros from his family.

Nine people were arrested by the gendarmes between the beginning of January and mid-February 2023, for acts of kidnapping and forcible confinement,

Le Figaro

learned from the gendarmerie.

In total, more than fifteen inspectors from the research sectors of Versailles, Lille, and the Montmorency research brigade joined forces to identify and arrest these nine protagonists, suspected of having kidnapped and sequestered a man for ransom.

The kidnappers collect the ransom by bicycle

The case starts on January 10, 2023, when two men of Pakistani nationality come to report to the Blanc-Mesnil (93) police station the kidnapping of a member of their community, residing in Ezanville (95).

They say they received a video showing the victim tied up and threatened with a weapon, as well as a ransom demand of 100,000 euros to free their friend.

A flagrant investigation is opened, and the Pontoise public prosecutor's office seizes the gendarmes of the Montmorency research brigade (Val-d'Oise) and the research section of Versailles (Yvelines) who are trying to find the trace of the victim.

The investigators quickly discover that the victim had gone freely to an appointment in the town of Croix (59), without suspecting that it was actually an ambush.

Abducted in the middle of the night from a parking lot, the victim was sequestered by the criminals in accommodation rented upstream on the Airbnb platform.

She suffered physical violence and psychological pressure.

This pressure does not spare the victim's family either, who receive numerous calls by encrypted messaging and videos showing their loved one tied up and beaten by an iron bar.

The victim's brother was also instructed to deposit the ransom in Essonne.

Decision is made with the gendarmes to pay the money, to follow the trail of the kidnappers.

The ransom finally deposited by the family is recovered a few minutes later by two men who came by bicycle.

Investigators follow their trail, and place their home under surveillance, before managing to locate the hostage, freed by his captors.

Supported by the GIGN, the gendarmes trigger two simultaneous operations in Essonne and in the North, managing to arrest one of the two men suspected of having collected the ransom.

The latter was subsequently indicted and remanded in custody on January 12.

The continuation of the investigations, and the creation of a

task force

of about fifteen investigators from Versailles, Lille and Montmorency finally make it possible to put a net on these kidnappers, on February 14.

Eight people, mostly men aged 20 to 35, very unfavorably known in particular for similar facts and living mainly in Île-de-France, were arrested and placed in police custody.

On February 17, these defendants were brought before the investigating magistrate.
