The male head of the household was subsequently arrested by the police, covered his head with a black cloth, and was sent to Kwai Chung Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

The police reclassified the case as "arson" for follow-up, and are investigating whether the arrested person is related to the two previous arson cases of amusement facilities in the district, as well as the mental state of the arrested person.

The arrested man is said to have a psychiatric record.

On-site sources said that the incident occurred in a unit on the 6th floor.

Photos and videos uploaded by netizens to social networking sites showed that the burning unit was blazing, with flames coming out of the windows, and a large amount of black smoke rising into the air.

The "Hong Kong 01" reporter saw at the scene that an air conditioner was burned and fell to the ground. After the fire was extinguished, it could be seen that the outside of the unit was severely blackened, and the window frame was burned to the point of deformation.

According to the police, the arrested man was surnamed Cai, 57 years old.

At 10:40 p.m. on the 23rd, the police received reports from several residents of Shek Wai House, Shek Lei (1) Village, that a unit at the address had caught fire.

Firefighters extinguished the fire after they were called to the scene. Initial investigations by firefighters believe that the cause of the fire is suspicious.

After preliminary investigation, Cai Nan was arrested on suspicion of "arson" and handed over to the Kwai Tsing District Criminal Investigation Team for follow-up.

The arrested man was conscious and was sent to Kwai Chung Hospital for treatment.

About 60 residents evacuated to safety on their own during the fire.
