The investment will be 7 million pounds. It's inside the Mount Pleasant military base. Argentina rejects the presence of troops and war equipment on the islands.

The UK government announced the renovation of its airport in the Falkland Islands.

The announcement coincides in time with the decision of the Argentine government to reopen the X Air Brigade of Río Gallegos, to transfer military aircraft there and to open a new Army garrison in Tierra del Fuego to show the presence of the Defense in the southernmost Patagonia.

According to the statement issued by the British government, work has already begun to remodel the runway at the Mount Pleasant military complex aerodrome and will continue for three months.

And they will take, in principle, an investment of 6.96 million pounds, about 8 million dollars.

Mount Pleasant is home to the imposing military base built by the British Ministry of Defense in 1985, three years after its victory over Argentine forces in the war for the Falklands (649 Argentine dead and 255 British).

But in addition, the military complex has two airstrips, located just 50 kilometers from the capital of the archipelago.

One of the runways forms the airport for civil and commercial aviation.

“Works include painting runway markings with reflective paint, replacing airfield signage, adding lights and coating the runway asphalt with a layer of bitumen.

This protective layer will extend the life of the track until it can be fully re-laid in years to come.

The project was awarded to UK installations and services company Mitie and will be carried out by subcontractor Gatwick Construction.

The contractors are going to work at night to avoid, they said, interruptions in the few and expected air connections of the islands with Europe and South America.

The Mount Pleasant military complex is used for airlift flights to and from the UK, a service provided by the Royal Air Force for the estimated 1,200 military personnel still present in the Falklands, for LATAM flights connecting the Falkland Islands with South America, as well as for the Falkland Islands Government Air Service (FIGAS) that connects MPC with the peripheral islands of the Falklands.

Recently, the islanders expressed their anger with the Argentine government because it refuses to allow them a second air connection negotiated under the government of Mauricio Macri, that of San Pablo-Mount Pleasant every Wednesday, with a monthly stopover in Cordoba.

In the statement, the islanders accused Argentina of wanting to harm their self-determination, but at the same time they refuse, despite the fact that forty years have passed since the war, and this country is not a real threat, they refuse to fly to Malvinas Airlines Argentinas and that Buenos Aires is the alternative capital to Río Gallegos.

"The Government of the Falkland Islands is very sad and disappointed to announce Argentina's refusal of the overflight permit for the weekly air link between the Islands and Brazil," began the statement from the Legislative Assembly on January 30.

In said text they also warned: "The Government of the Falkland Islands will look for other viable options, including those that do not require the Argentine overflight, but it will always be open to the restart of this air link," they concluded.

With around 1,200 soldiers, the Mount Pleasant Military Complex has a radar system, another CAMM Sky Saber air defense surface-to-air missile system, is the base of the 1435 Flight with 4 Typhoon Eurofighters FGR4 fighter-bombers and the 1312 Flight with an Airbus A330 Voyager MRTT for transport and aerial refueling plus an Airbus Atlas C1 (A400M) for tactical air transport, among other aerial means.

Argentina successively denounced that this complex is the instrument of a "militarization of the South Atlantic" from Malvinas.

And London, which denies it, always applied to Mount Pleasant the principles of the successive modernization of its entire Defense complex.
