Republican candidates for the 2024 US presidential election will face off in a first debate in August held in the state of Wisconsin, a source close to the organization told AFP on Thursday.
Four Republicans are already in the race for the nomination, including former President Donald Trump and his ex-ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley.
Numerous applications
Many conservatives also plan to run in the next few months: Donald Trump's former vice-president, Mike Pence, his ex-head of diplomacy, Mike Pompeo, the governors of Virginia and New Hampshire... The Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' candidacy, a rising hard-right star, is one of the most anticipated.
The choice of Milwaukee, the largest city in Wisconsin, to organize this debate owes nothing to chance: this state in the Great Lakes region is hotly contested between Republicans and Democrats during each election.
It was won by a hair's breadth by Joe Biden in 2020.
