"Apparently a big misunderstanding" - the rush to the carnival party causes a large-scale police operation

There is criticism of the lack of road closures during the moss spirit drive on Shrove Tuesday in downtown Erding.

Erding – Apparently nobody had expected the rush to the moss spirit activity on Shrove Tuesday in the center of Erding – neither Paul Diebold from the event association, nor the city, nor the moss spirits themselves Pre-pandemic years not closed to traffic this year.

A regular bus even had to drive backwards.

The police finally defused this dangerous situation shortly before 4 p.m. by blocking the area with several emergency vehicles.

The fire department came later.

The police had been informed by the city, said city spokesman Christian Wanninger when asked.

The traffic chaos was also an issue in the town hall.

Wanninger emphasized that the city had only approved drinks bars on Kleiner Platz and Schrannenplatz.

It was a spontaneous action of the moss spirits to also cross the Langezeile.

It was only agreed that they would move over the two places.

"Nobody saw the need to block the road," explained Wanninger.

For comparison: The Narrhalla, as organizer, applied for the road closure for the Narrenschranne on Shrove Sunday.

Organizer: "Resonance was bombastic"

"It was obviously a big misunderstanding and will hopefully be resolved better next year," Diebold said.

He had set up a carousel, a few stands and a Punch and Judy show on Schrannenplatz.

"The response was bombastic," he said happily as chairman of the new events association.

"I didn't think it was that bad," said Tobias Kapfer from the Moosgeistern about the turmoil: "It was due to the nice weather." Now you know that you have to block the long line.

The customs group moved around at the express request of the city.
