Peugeot 508, the sedan does not want to die

NEW - Five years after its birth, the large Sochaux sedan has been given an aesthetic and technological upgrade.

Large sedans have not had it easy since motorists fell in love with SUVs.

At Peugeot, if the 508 is relegated to the minimum portion, this is not a reason to give up the game.

Last year in France, the 508 finished in 88th place in the sales rankings with just 3,747 units registered.

Wedged between an opportunist 408 and a still valiant 3008 although at the end of its career, the large Sochaux sedan has not said its last word, offering itself an upgrade.

It touches the style that applies the latest codes in force within the French manufacturer.

The front end thus adopts the new grille inaugurated by the 308 and fine Matrix LED headlamps from which descend three vertical claws.

Also at the rear, the LED lights incorporate the three claws.

New rims complete the new physiognomy of a range streamlined around three finishes (Allure, GT and PSE).

The passenger compartment has not been forgotten with new skins and a revised dashboard around an infotainment screen increased to 10 inches and integrating the latest generation of on-board systems found in the 308 and 408. The tree structure and organization of menus and windows have been redesigned.

Standard equipment includes night vision, level 2 semi-autonomous driving, consisting of adaptive cruise control with Stop and Go function and lane keeping assistance, assistance cameras parking and a 3-mode controlled suspension (Normal, Comfort and Sport).

Finally, under the hood of the 508 sedan and station wagon SW, we find the engines offered since the launch, namely the 130 hp diesel, the 130 hp Pure Tech petrol and the 225 hp plug-in hybrid and 360 hp PSE versions.

The electrified range is enriched, however, with a 180 hp plug-in hybrid version intended in particular for businesses and combining the 150 hp petrol engine with a 110 hp electric motor.

The three PHEV versions accommodate a 12.4 kWh battery.

It can be recharged in 1 hour 40 minutes on a 7.4 kW wallbox and in 7 hours on a domestic socket.

Note that the light hybridization engine which has just been presented by Peugeot will not be offered on the new 508 launched on the market in the summer of 2023.
