Historically
women have been treated with some deference
.
The car door was opened for them, the chair was arranged for them in the restaurant, they were let in front (
"ladies first"
).
Before them, the men took care of their language and refrained from cursing or talking about topics considered masculine and that could offend ladies and young ladies.
In turn,
the women remained in their homes, dedicated to household chores
that included cleaning, cooking, raising children, caring for the elderly, and sewing.
The arguments for this sexual division of labor were based on
the security of the private sphere
in comparison with the dangers that could appear in the public space, limited to men.
The other explanation was
the "innate gifts" of women for these tasks
: sewing, cleaning, cooking, raising, caring.
The conception of a hard-working woman was complemented by other characteristics, such as being
sweeter, empathetic, affectionate, soft, educated... feminine... the "weaker sex"
.
Virgins and then Saints.
Throughout her life,
one in three women, some 736 million, suffer physical or sexual violence.
Intimate partner violence is by far the most prevalent form of violence against women:
it affects 641 million women worldwide

Every day, 137 women are killed by members of their family.

the complaints in Argentina are rising

In the third quarter of 2022, for example, they grew by 32% compared to 2021:
9 out of 10 people who denounced their partners were women

The first "Survey on the prevalence of violence against women" in the country revealed that half of women suffer violence from their partner or ex.
And that 20% were abused.
All the observatories of violence in the country report almost a daily femicide.
How is gender violence explained?
How are systematic abuses and rapes against virtuous and immaculate women justified?
And the daily femicides?
Could it be that women are no longer revered because they claim equality?
Are they punished for being rebellious?
Is that why eternal torments are demanded if they don't act like saints?
