The Solidarity Commission with Syria, Syrian and Arab expatriate activists, and solidarity activists from Sweden organized a solidarity stand in the capital, Stockholm, to demand the lifting of the unjust siege on Syria, and to show solidarity with it after the earthquake that struck it.

During the stand, a statement was delivered in both Arabic and Swedish calling for the lifting of the unilateral Western sanctions imposed on Syria after the war that was launched against it more than 10 years ago, by terrorists supported by the United States and Western countries, noting that this war resulted in thousands of victims, in addition to Displacing millions and destroying infrastructure.

The statement indicated that the much-needed relief work now in Syria after the devastating earthquake has become more difficult, due to these Western sanctions that prevent the arrival of aid and everything that would mitigate the effects and repercussions of the devastating earthquake, pointing out that the United Nations condemns these sanctions imposed by Sweden. And other countries against Syria, where the Human Rights Council affirmed in a resolution issued in 2020 that unilateral coercive measures constitute a violation of international law, humanitarian law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the norms and principles that govern peaceful relations between states because they create social problems in the long run and increase the suffering of people in affected countries. .

The statement concluded by saying: “The sanctions imposed on Syria rise to the level of premeditated killing, calling for their immediate lifting and for the Swedish government not to provide any assistance to the separatist militias in Syria, or any support for the war against this country that is suffering because of Western policies.”
