Worrying in advance: In a letter to the Minister of Communications, the regional councils complain about deteriorating conditions • "Options for additional services that were provided in the past have been completely canceled" • Karai: "The senior citizen sector will not be harmed"

Following the postal reform: the regional councils are complaining about the deterioration of the conditions in the mobile mail services in their area, which they say is expected to harm the senior citizens.

Ofir Liebstein, head of the Negev Gate Council, wrote a letter to Communications Minister Shlomo Karai in which he claimed that as part of the reform that is taking place at the Israel Post, a significant damage is expected to the service level of the Israel Post in the country's rural areas.

In his letter he wrote: "As part of the planned reform, the mail distribution services in the localities of the regional councils, mobile mail, were cut to two days a week and the options for the additional services provided in the past were completely eliminated: payment by mail, sending registered mail, etc. every day to kibbutzim and moshavim, allowing residents to send mail and receive mail. Now it is expected to arrive two to three times a week. In addition, the porthole services as part of mobile mail have been discontinued from now on."

"Hard hit"

He also added in his letter that "As a resident of the rural area in the Negev, you will surely appreciate the great importance of making postal services accessible and connected to all kinds of postal services for the residents of the rural area, and certainly for the periphery. The cancellation of the said services and the reduction of mail delivery result in a serious damage to the level of service that the residents of the State of Israel in the rural area receive. The rural area It is often characterized by large distances between settlements and many veterans live there who do not always have the opportunity to consume services by remote technological means or an accessible transportation connection to the city."

The Office of the Minister of Communications stated: "The new license that was signed recently adapts the services to the demand. We note that the demand for porthole services in the rural area has been on a downward trend in recent years, and the number of operations is extremely low. Mail and package delivery services will be provided once a week, as in the whole country. The senior citizen sector will not will be harmed by the reform, on the contrary."

The Israel Post responded: "The Post is currently undergoing an extensive recovery plan, the main goals of which are to prevent bankruptcy, stabilize and optimize the company, and significantly improve the level of service. The Israel Post Company is in direct and continuous contact with the heads of the councils, and is working to explain the changes , and offer collaborations and tailored solutions."
