Joe Biden, the oldest US president in office, confirmed on Friday that he did intend to announce his candidacy for a second term in the 2024 presidential election, but not immediately.

My intention is...has been from the beginning to run
," the 80-year-old Democrat said in an interview with ABC News on Friday.
His wife Jill Biden had told the Associated Press earlier today that the only thing left to do was decide when and where to make a campaign announcement.
Asked about this interview, Joe Biden launched a witticism without confirming or denying.
However, he made it clear that he was in no hurry.
"
There are too many other things we need to get done in the short term before I start campaigning
," he said of the reforms his administration has undertaken.
"Pay attention to what I'm doing"
Asked if his age influenced his decision to run or not, he replied, “
No.
But it is legitimate for people to ask questions about my age.
It's completely legitimate.
"
All I can say is: watch what I'm doing,
" he added, appearing to allude to the record of his first two years in the White House.
Joe Biden would complete a possible second term at the age of 86.
A medical examination conducted last week concluded that he was "
vigorous
" and "
fit
" to perform his duties.
