Spanish health authorities announced the discovery of the first suspected case of the deadly Marburg virus in the southeastern city of Valencia.
Reuters quoted the authorities as saying today: “A person who was recently in Guinea was transferred to an isolation unit in a hospital in Valencia, after he was suspected of being infected with the Marburg virus,” adding: “He is currently undergoing medical examinations.”
And earlier this month, the virus appeared for the first time in the Ki Ntim region of Guinea, placing more than 200 people in quarantine, and the authorities limited the movement of citizens in the country.
According to the World Health Organization, Guinea has so far reported nine deaths and 16 suspected cases of infection with the virus, as symptoms of infection included fever, fatigue, vomiting with blood and diarrhea, adding: The death rate due to Marburg virus infection can reach 88 percent, and there is no vaccine or vaccine. An approved antiviral treatment so far.
