Great reception for the first leopards in Ukraine.

The four Leopard 2 battle tanks arrived on a low loader, accompanied by the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

A look at the Ukrainian reception committee shows the symbolic importance of the tanks.

In addition to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Defense Minister Oleksiy Resnikov also made the trip.

OT Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine

"We are grateful to the Polish nation and government. I personally want to join the Polish Prime Minister in thanking you young defenders of Ukraine. Thank you Glory to Ukraine!"

Klitschko, released this video - showing him on board a Leopard 2 tank, possibly at the Munster military training area in Lower Saxony.

OT Wladimir Klitschko, former world boxing champion

"A year ago I would never have thought that I would drive this cat. A year of war in Ukraine, a year of suffering and a year in which our willpower has become greater than ever. As strong as this tank. Thank you Germany , thanks to the free world. Glory to Ukraine, glory to the heroes."

A view of where modern war equipment is needed more urgently than anywhere else. A Ukrainian unit near Bakhmut.

The Ukrainian troops are still holding the city, but the pressure from the Russian attackers is great.

Attack follows attack.

Eyewitnesses describe the situation as "hell on earth".

OT Mykhailo, artilleryman

"We need more weapons, more than anything else. More tanks, artillery, armored vehicles. We have the experience but not the equipment to drive the enemy away."

OT Stanislav, commander

"War is difficult. Many people die. We know what we are fighting for. Every war has its price. We pay the price. We are fighting for peace."

Several countries, including Germany, recently agreed to give more tanks to Ukraine.

Now there are over 30, enough to equip a battalion - but given the length of the front and the scale of the fighting, not a number that in itself will have a decisive impact on the war.
