According to the Greek fire brigade, it had to be deployed 96 times over the weekend to extinguish forest and bush fires.
In the worst fire on the north side of the Peloponnese peninsula, firefighting planes were also used to contain the flames, state radio (ERT) reported.
So far no people have been harmed.
In addition to arson, meteorologists cited unusual weather conditions as the cause: In large parts of Greece it has rained very little this winter.
