Makhlouf: Organizing relief operations based on an accurate database to deliver continuous support to the beneficiaries in Lattakia

The Chairman of the Higher Committee for Relief, Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf, stressed during his meeting this evening with the members of the sub-committee for relief in Lattakia Governorate and its operations room, the need to go to organize relief operations based on an accurate database to deliver continuous support to the beneficiaries in order to reduce their burdens.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Governor of Lattakia, Eng. Amer Hilal, Makhlouf pointed out the necessity of activating daily communication between the governorate and the operations room, in which all the required information and data must be poured, and the outcome of the work of the technical committees. Immediate handling of all cases and facilitating response procedures.

Makhlouf said: The Relief Operations Room is directly concerned with reassuring those affected by following up on the reality of their needs, pointing out that all efforts and relief and humanitarian aid received by the governorates of any kind must be documented in data and at the disposal of the Relief Committee and the Operations Room and in the service of those affected to alleviate their suffering. .

The Minister of Local Administration and Environment indicated that the plan for the distribution of humanitarian and relief aid, which is supervised by the operations room, should be through the tools of the governorate from institutions, associations and civil society based on a specific program according to the available capabilities, and within the capabilities and aid that reached the governorate.

Makhlouf called for finding a specific timetable with regard to residential buildings and engineering inspections on them, determining the extent of their structural integrity, taking the necessary decisions regarding them, and expanding the work teams concerned in this field, especially those related to safety committees to take the required measures and speed them up.

He stressed the need to complete and rehabilitate shelters in an optimal manner and organize work in them to provide adequate and temporary shelter for those affected and provide them with basic services.

Minister Makhlouf praised the efforts of international organizations supporting the relief effort in the governorate and their local partners, including NGOs and organizations that provide aid and support to those affected, pointing to the importance of finding participatory and complementary work between all parties to reach the best levels of service.

For his part, the Governor of Lattakia stated that, during the next week, work will begin to implement alternative housing in each of the cities of Jableh and Lattakia after the agreement and determine the locations for the establishment of these dwellings, in addition to searching for suitable places in the village of Astamu, reviewing the reality of the damage caused by the earthquake, the number of victims and injured, the damaged buildings, and the procedures Relief Subcommittee and Operations Room to face the repercussions of the earthquake and respond to its requirements.

A number of members of the Relief Subcommittee and the Operations Room gave an explanation of the measures taken to contain the disaster caused by the earthquake, starting with the initial response plan, rescue operations, preparing shelters, and moving to the next stage with regard to providing alternative housing and the mechanism for inspecting damaged homes.
