The Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergey Naryshkin, confirmed that the decision to suspend Russia's participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) is a correct and logical step.
According to RIA Novosti, Naryshkin considered in a statement today that this Russian step came as a complete surprise to the United States, and said: "This decision was absolutely correct, solid and logical."
President Vladimir Putin announced in a speech before the Federal Assembly on the 21st of this month the suspension of Russia's participation in the Strategic Offensive Weapons Treaty (New START).
