The fear: the events in Hawara will set fire to all of Judea and Samaria Israel today

2023-02-26T21:45:41.531Z

The Jews' acts of revenge for the deadly terrorist attack were written on the wall • The question arises: why won't the security forces increase forces in the village • Now the riots may ignite the sector, and perhaps even beyond it

After the deadly attack in which two Israelis were murdered in the village of Hawara, riots began by settlers who harmed Palestinian civilians and property there, thus bringing Samaria to a dangerous boiling point.

The sector in which the attack was carried out is not surprising.

Nablus has become a dangerous terrorist nest in months, second only to the refugee camp in Jenin.

The "Lion's Den" organization, which operated from the Kasbah in Nablus, attracted a lot of media and security attention, and caused quite a few headaches for the IDF and Shin Bet as well.

Just last week, an attempted arrest of two members of this organization turned into a violent fight, during which 11 Palestinians were killed.

The terrorist organizations were quick to threaten in response, and it is possible that yesterday's attack was carried out as part of this.

Hvara is a well-known weak point, due to the need to pass through it on the way to the settlements on the hill in Samaria.

In the past year, the village has been a regular focus for violent clashes, including terrorist attacks.

However, what happened in Hawara was unusual by any standard: dozens of armed settlers arrived in the village, and deliberately harmed Palestinian civilians and property.

More than 10 houses and dozens of cars were set on fire, and in several cases the lives of Palestinian citizens were in danger and the IDF had to rescue them to protect their lives.

Arab networks

While the attack was carried out without prior warning, and therefore the IDF and Shin Bet could not prepare for it, the revenge actions of Jews were written on the wall.

undertakes to ask: why don't the IDF and the Shia district of the police increase the forces in the village, in order to mediate between the parties and reduce the scope of the violence.

This is a real blackout, the potential of which is more explosive than any other event that took place in the sector in the past bloody year: if there is not a quick mobilization of the leaderships on both sides to calm the spirits, it may turn out that in Hvara the spark was ignited that would light a great conflagration in Yosh, and perhaps even beyond. The government Netanyahu did come out last night calling to calm the spirits, but a clear statement is also needed from the political and religious leadership of the settlement - which has not yet been heard.

After the convention in Aqaba

In an attempt to prevent such an arson, Israeli security officials, Palestinians, Egyptians, Jordanians and Americans met in Aqaba.

The fear at the meeting was of an escalation around Ramadan next month, but it seems that reality has overtaken the preparations.

Although the talks were conducted in a good atmosphere, and continuity was also agreed upon (the next meeting, on the eve of Ramadan, will be held under Egyptian auspices), but more will be required to calm the area now, certainly when there are enough other factors - from Hamas in Gaza, through Iran, to a host of inciting factors on the networks Socialism - that they will try to set fire to the Palestinian arena, and especially the Temple Mount.

The main challenge in the talks, alongside an attempt to return the Palestinian security mechanisms to cooperation with the IDF, is to bring them back into action in northern Samaria. to operate in the area with greater frequency and scope than before against the background of the increase in the scope of the threat.

However, despite the hopes, it is doubtful whether at this stage the Palestinian forces are prepared to operate effectively again in northern Samaria.

This means that Israel will be required to act in any case of warning, and given the current level of violence - which was manifested yesterday in the attack in Hawara and the response to it - it seems that we are at the beginning of a bloody period.
