The Ministry of Culture, the Union of Plastic Artists in Syria, and the cultural community mourned the head of the Union of Palestinian Plastic Artists in Syria, the artist Abdel Muti Abu Zaid, at the age of eighty, after a rich artistic career in which he carried the cause of his homeland with his heart, soul, and body in his paintings.

The Palestinian plastic artist Abu Zaid, born in Haifa in 1943, moved to Damascus following the Nakba in 1948 to become one of the most prominent pioneers of contemporary Palestinian art, as he found in painting an important tool to express his feelings towards his land, focusing on the heritage aspect in his works, his attachment to hope and his connection as an artist to the soil of Palestine.

I lived in the late artist's memory of his city, Haifa, and his perception of its sea and the beauty of its nature, in addition to a group of human stories he lived through.

And because he grew up in Damascus and loved it and was attached to its old houses, he started his artistic talent by drawing the city of jasmine in his own way, as it created a new chapter for him in the beginning stage, which he later developed during his high school studies with a group of talented students under the supervision of specialized professors, which qualified him to hold many exhibitions. Fine art transferring Palestinian life to the painting with a renewal of its own.

Abu Zeid is considered one of the first founders of the Palestinian Plastic Artists Union in 1979 as a sponsor and organizer of the plastic movement in the occupied territories and in the diaspora, and he played a very influential role in introducing the Palestinian cause through plastic art.

Abu Zeid moved through his artistic career in several schools, starting with realism, in which he did not find himself, which made him seek to form his personality through exposure to many experiences, in addition to his culture, so that Palestinian painting becomes the basis of his artistic work.

 The late artist remarkably participated in group exhibitions in several countries: Lebanon, Yemen, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Jordan, Iran, the Soviet Union (formerly), Czechoslovakia, Greece, Portugal, America, Nicaragua, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain.

Abu Zaid also participated in all the exhibitions of the Fine Arts Syndicate and the Ministry of Culture in Syria, and many paintings, posters, book covers and cards were printed for him. He practiced drawing, calligraphy, journalistic direction and design. In addition, the Czech TV recorded a film about his work and his artistic life, and the French cinema group took his painting (Roots). Olive film poster.

He also held solo exhibitions of his drawings on the Palestinian national issue.

In all of his press interviews, Abu Zeid focused on the importance of the role of Palestinian plastic artists in the process of the Palestinian national identity.

The artist, who has won many awards, sought through his artistic career to make Palestine his beacon to art, summarizing through it the meanings of heritage, hope and return, relying on his artistic plan on Palestinian architecture and the woman as Karmzin, who summarize the issue and the social and human concerns of the Palestinian people as a result of the occupation, and to express these cases honestly. and originality.

It remains to be noted that Abd al-Moati Abu Zaid mixed being a teacher, educator, and plastic artist, who carried in his sleeve and his path the love of the Palestinian homeland, so that thanks to his giving, hundreds of students graduated in all fields of academic achievement, including medicine, engineering, law, media, and art in all its forms.
