Just a few days after Oman gave permission for Israeli airlines to fly in its airspace, the first Israeli flight to do so will take off this evening (Sunday).
The first flight that will fly on the shortened route is flight ly083, which will depart from Tel Aviv to Bangkok.
It will take off at 20:15, and its estimated flight length will be about 8 hours.
• Oman will allow Israeli airline flights to pass through its airspace
• Short flights to the East and a drop in prices - the meaning of the flights over Oman
• Following the opening of the skies: direct flights to Sri Lanka are being considered, in only five hours
The CEO of El Al, Dina Ben-Tal Gannasia, said: "El Al is proud to be the first Israeli airline to fly over the skies of Saudi Arabia and Oman, and to take an active part in the history of the State of Israel.
I want to thank the Israeli government again for this important achievement, which will allow us to provide a better flight experience to our customers."
The approval given last week joins the approval that Saudi Arabia granted last year, which will allow the duration of flights from Israel to destinations in Asia to be shortened by more than two hours, thus making Israeli airlines more competitive and significantly reducing ticket prices for Israeli citizens.
According to a political source, "significant American efforts vis-à-vis Oman are what led to the long-awaited approval, we appreciate it."
