Zhanzhu Bay speedboat crashes into fishing boat, one dead and one unconscious

Today (26th) at nearly 10:00 am, a speedboat collided with a fishing boat on the sea off Zhanzhu Bay, Sai Kung. Two men took a sampan to go fishing in the sea. The marine police arrived at the scene to search and rescue, rescued the two men and sent them to the marine police base opposite Sai Kung.

Unfortunately, one of the men has been confirmed dead; the other unconscious man was transferred to Eastern Hospital by Government Flying Service helicopter for emergency treatment.

On-site news indicated that someone was suspected of water skiing off Zhanzhu Bay. The speedboat was driving at high speed on the sea surface, and then suspected of hitting the fishing boat involved. The police arrested 3 water skiers on the speedboat for "endangering the safety of others at sea."


It is understood that the 60-year-old deceased surnamed Liang and the 57-year-old injured man surnamed Lin worked as a decoration worker. At 7:00 am, Liang Nan rowed a wooden sampan and carried Lin Nan to the sea opposite Zhanzhu Bay, Sai Kung.

Until nearly 10:00 a.m., a speedboat driven by a 43-year-old man surnamed Guo suddenly approached the sampan at high speed. During this time, Liang was suspected to have been hit by a propeller, causing his right side to be cut open, and the injured person was also hit, resulting in injuries to his left hand and left chest .

The 32-year-old man surnamed Li on the speedboat saw the situation and called the police for help.

After the marine police arrived at the scene, they rescued the two injured men and sent them to the marine police base opposite Sai Kung. However, Liang was certified dead on the spot, while Lin was taken to the Eastern District Hospital by helicopter and was still conscious at the time.

The police subsequently arrested the 43-year-old driver of the speedboat, surnamed Guo, and two men on board, surnamed Li, 32, and 25, respectively, on suspicion of endangering the safety of others at sea.

Two ships suspected of being involved in the case were moored at the Marine Police Base opposite Sai Kung. One of the sampans was about 10 feet long and the stern was severely damaged with visible cracks. Another speedboat suspected of being involved in the case was also moored at the base.

Police are investigating the two boats.

An unconscious man was flown to Eastern Hospital by Government Flying Service helicopter.
