12 people were injured, and buildings and cars were damaged, as a result of a series of powerful tornadoes that swept through the US states of Oklahoma and Kansas.
Reuters quoted police in Norman, Oklahoma, as saying: The 12 people were taken to hospitals after they were injured as a result of the storms that swept the city and nearby places.
The police added: Many roads were closed due to fallen power poles and the wreckage of homes and cars, and power was cut off from about 12 homes and businesses across Oklahoma.
Video footage showed fallen power lines in the middle of roads, scattered debris, flying roofs of buildings and overturned cars.
Winds reached 177 kilometers per hour in the American plains, in addition to strong storms in California, the upper Midwest and New England.
According to the National Weather Service, nine tornadoes were reported in Kansas and Oklahoma.
Earlier this month, a storm swept through the American plains, the Midwest and the Great Lakes, and California witnessed heavy snow, rain and hail.
