The local authorities in the Brazilian capital announced today that the number of victims of the floods that swept the state of Sao Paulo, in southeastern Brazil, has risen to 64.
According to the latest toll announced by the authorities today, according to local media, the floods have so far killed 64 people, including 18 children, and caused the displacement of more than 2,400 people, while one person is still missing.
Sao Paulo Governor Tarcisio de Freitas revealed that the SMS alert system did not avoid the tragedy, promising to install sirens in high-risk areas.
A previous toll indicated the day before yesterday that 54 people were killed, and thirty others were considered missing, as a result of floods and landslides that resulted from heavy rains in Sao Paulo.
