Is it possible to use platforms with explicit sexual content intended for self-gratification also for learning purposes? A new study states that many of the users of the Onelipance app are profiting from it

A new study published that people who use OnlyFans tend to be more knowledgeable about sexual health and sexual practices and their risks.

According to the study published in Springer's "Sexuality and Culture" journal, the surveyed participants found that they learned more about sex while using the app, than in sex education classes or information sources designed to teach about sexuality.

"The formal sexuality education curriculum is developing a lot around the world, but people are looking for more information about sex and sexuality from different sources and informal media," said lead researcher and study author Marie Lipman.

"We wanted to understand the value of learning from OnlyFans, given that it's such a popular platform."

The application, which allows users to post seemingly anything, including explicit sexual content, and is also a means for sex workers or anyone interested in generating additional income, and the goal of the researchers was to understand the effect the application has on the sex life of the viewer - participant.

425 people participated in the study - 53 percent of them were men, and 47 percent were women, and almost all of them identified as heterosexual and heteronormative.

According to Lipman's data, 41 percent of the 425 people questioned in the study said that they actually tried things they learned on the app in their private bedroom - from using sex accessories to researching their sexual orientation: "People who regularly use the platform gain new knowledge about themselves, and about sexuality in

general , they also learn new skills that they apply to their sex lives and relationships."

There are several other questions that remain open, and form the basis for the next case, according to Lipman, such as how the experience differs for sex workers and users, why sex workers choose the app as their platform, how demographics such as race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, may be related, or what Design features can make OnlyFans a more accessible platform for sexual learning purposes.
