In the shadow of a "cold" in relations: Foreign Minister Cohen will arrive in Berlin Israel today

The German government does not hide its criticism of the legal reform and Israel's conduct in Judea and Samaria.

After the "renewed honeymoon" in German-Israeli relations under the Bennet-Lapid government, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen will arrive in Berlin tomorrow (Tuesday) for the first visit of a minister from the new Netanyahu government to Germany.

Since the beginning of the term of office of the current government in Israel, relations between Berlin and Jerusalem have cooled.

The center-left government in Germany is very wary of showing too much closeness to the "strong right" government in Israel, fears that it will act to bury the "two states for two peoples" solution and does not hide its criticism of the planned legal reform in Israel.

The German government has frozen the plans for holding the annual consultation meeting with the Israeli government, which has not been held for four and a half years.

The German Foreign Ministry even tried to prevent the German Minister of Justice, Dr. Marko Buschmann, a member of the Liberal Party, from visiting Israel.

However, Bushman - who is considered a friend of Israel, arrived in Israel last week, met with Minister of Justice Yariv Levin, the President of the Supreme Court and the Legal Adviser to the Government and was also present at the opening of an exhibition on the Nazi past of the ministry he heads.

Last week, the German Chancellor's political adviser, who was assigned to the National Security Adviser, Tzachi Hanegbi, also visited Israel and met briefly with Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Minister Cohen is scheduled with his colleague, Anlana Barbuk from the "Greens" party.

Barbok is expected to raise the issue of security escalation in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem as well as the initiative to impose taxation on German political foundations operating in Israel.

Foreign Minister Cohen is expected to raise the issue of including the Iranian "Revolutionary Guards" in the European Union's terror list.

The European Union has so far refrained from this move, on the grounds that a convicting decision by a court in one of the EU countries against the "revolutionary guards" is needed, and such does not exist at the moment.

Barbuk stated a few days ago that there is no legal basis for the inclusion of the "Revolutionary Guards" in the terrorist list.

Minister Cohen will also visit the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin and hold talks in the German Bundestag.
