Lexus LX600 on first drive - a dinosaur in a suit

2023-02-27T16:39:54.159Z

It's big, it's thirsty, it has over 400 hp and off-road capabilities wrapped in luxurious leather 25 speakers and Japanese elegance, we took the Lexus LX600 for a test drive

Lexus' top-of-the-range SUV is designed for people who want the off-road capabilities of a Land Cruiser 300, but with the luxury and luxury of Buckingham Palace.

Since no more Land Cruiser models are imported into the US, the LX600 is the Yankees' only option to get this off-road capability.

The Land Cruiser 300 does not come to Israel, but we also receive the Lexus LX and with American standards.

The Lexus LX600 can be had in a standard configuration of 7 seats in three rows, or in a rare limousine configuration of 4 seats, without a third row but with pampering captain's chairs that can be adjusted in every possible direction.

Since it's a real Land Cruiser at its core, the chassis of the Lexus LX is built the way a real SUV should be, with a ladder chassis and live rear axle.

The design combines the familiar elements of Lexus with a huge grille in the shape of an hourglass, the hood with two protrusions on the sides and the designed lighting units.

The Lexus LX600 is a huge vehicle, with a length of 510 cm, a width of 199 cm, a height of about 190 cm and a not particularly long wheelbase of 285 cm.

The own weight of almost 2.7 tons.

In short, a dinosaur in a suit.

Also on the inside, Lexus continued with the luxurious and high-quality clothing.

The entire passenger cabin is wrapped in leather and the quality of the raw materials and assembly is very high.

The dashboard is clear and comfortable, the central console includes two touch screens - upper 12.3 inches for audio and navigation system, lower 8 inches for climate control.

Something that is different from most cars today is the number of buttons around the screens that some of us liked more and some of us liked less.

Be that as it may, the operation of all the systems is clearly convenient and friendly, whether through the screen or the buttons.

The space in the second row, which should be particularly comfortable, surprised us negatively in relation to the dimensions of the vehicle.

Not that crowded and crowded, but we expected a little more.

It is also not clear why such an expensive vehicle has a small sunroof only for the front part and the roof curtain and rear window curtains have to be moved manually and not electrically.

But that's just because we've gotten used to pampering ourselves.

In the nose of the Lexus LX is a V6 engine with a pair of turbochargers, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The engine produces 409 hp and that's enough power to get the LX out of the way despite its impressive size.

The gearbox usually manages and finds the right gear from the wide variety it has.

The price for the Rhino's good performance is an average fuel consumption of about 6 km per liter.

The quality of the damping in the city is good and most hazards are absorbed, although the rear is much stiffer and less outstanding.

On the highway, the ride quality is lacking and does not match the price level of the vehicle, especially in regards to curbing body vibrations.

Air suspension could have provided better balance for our taste.

The noise insulation in the car is very good thanks to double windows, "vacuum doors" and an active filtering system, so that a calm and quiet environment is created when hundreds of kilometers can be swallowed easily.

When you get off-road, the true capabilities of the Lexus LX600 are revealed.

The off-road driving mode selector knows how to adjust the vehicle's assemblies according to the selected contour and to it is added an impressive suspension movement that allows each of the tires to continue to grip the terrain even in challenging contours such as crossings.

The power down to the ground is good and only the low section road tires are a real limitation.

The Lexus LX600 is basically an off-road vehicle that has been dressed for the road.

For those who are looking for a luxury recreational vehicle, with an extraordinary presence and real off-road capabilities, this is a very good option for them.

He is not perfect, but knows how to make up for everything with his high abilities in the field.

Those who want serious off-road capability combined with luxury and utility will happily pay this price.

Those who do not really need the ability of the LX in the field will be able to find luxurious tools that are equally impressive and more comfortable.
