An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck today off the Fiji Islands in the Pacific Ocean.
The Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted the US Geological Survey as saying: “The tremor occurred at a depth of 548.13 kilometers, at 20.5315 degrees south latitude and 178.3629 degrees west longitude.”
There were no reports of casualties, damage or a threat of a tsunami.
