A picnic basket in the middle of the fields, the bakery that was established in an abandoned area, a gibbon in a boutique dairy and a visit to the winery that sits among green hills • The rural food festival in Mate Yehuda attracts curious food lovers every year • Here are some recommendations that we carefully selected

The Rural Food Festival in Mate Yehuda is an old and established festival that attracts curious food lovers.

As part of the festival, diverse meals are offered in a variety of styles and flavors.

Dozens of culinary people who live in the area open their homes, take the visitors into their hearts and serve the food of a multicultural and ethnic evening that characterizes them.

In preparation for the 23rd festival that takes place this year between March 9 and April 1, here are some recommendations that I have carefully selected - from me to you.

Sitopia

Imagine a house in a village where all the rooms are quiet and elegantly and tastefully decorated.

A warm fire warms up the cold winter evenings, a kitchen decorated with beautiful dishes, contemporary textiles and an incredibly delicious breakfast.

Well, there's no need to imagine - Itzik and Tessa from Kfar Oriya - have already made it happen.

With attention to every detail, the two built a hospitality complex at 8 Eretz Kedem Street in Kfar Oriya, which boasts a special location, wonderful design and a homely feel.

"Sitopia" is his name and is a dream for design and food lovers.

The two were able to create a particularly beautiful kitchen where chefs, culinary experts and more are guests from time to time.

On normal days, Itzik and Tessa will also prepare a picnic basket for you and even accompany you to the area to the exact observation point where you can enjoy spectacular sunsets in the heart of the fields and the natural forest.

On the days of the festival, the confectioner, Ruth Oliver, and Master Chef graduate, Tair Murdoch, are hosted at the place for brunch, meetings and lectures.

Ishlem

Eyal Tamir began his career as a baker at the well-known Teler Bakery in Jerusalem.

There he specialized in folding and rolling croissants.

But he abandoned the flours, leavens and kneading in favor of studying the history of the plant.

When he returned to dreaming of bread, in 2018 he opened a small bakery specializing only in sourdough and challah breads.

It was in an abandoned area on the outskirts of the town of Taoz, in farm number 31, to be precise.

Before the outbreak of the corona virus, the bakery expanded and became a cafe boasting fine coffee, delicatessen products, cakes, cookies and, of course, a variety of sourdough breads and croissants.

It is recommended to come on a sunny winter day, pick up spreads and cheeses that compliment the pastries and sit down at one of the picnic tables in front of the gorgeous view.

The family boutique dairy of the Tsavan family in Moshav Tal Shahar is a small and bright dairy.

The hospitality at the place is both homely and professional and is warmly managed by Alon Tsavan, who leads the thriving family business.

When you arrive at the place, you should make time for a guided tour of the barn and continue walking to the seasonal vegetable garden located in front of the pastures.

If you're lucky and it's gibbon time, don't miss a glimpse of the process.

After wandering and learning, it is a suitable time to walk among the shelves of the store and decide between the variety of delicacies offered for sale.

The most delicious entertainment there is without a doubt around the cheese platter - which is chosen especially to the taste of each guest.

I recommend carrying a bag from home, because you'll want to devour the cheeses and yogurts of Aiza Paziza at home as well.

 Egor Winery

Fridays at the Egor Winery, named after the moshav where it is located, have already made a name for themselves of joy and happiness.

Live music plays throughout the winery and its magical visitor center, young wines are poured into glasses and nature envelops the experience.

A mid-week visit for a guided wine tasting is also highly recommended.

The winery sits among the green hills of Yehuda, surrounded by a large and enchanting garden.

There you can enjoy a fine wine by Eyal Drori, the chief winemaker.

If you're lucky and Drori himself pours, guides and explains, then you'll be rewarded.

Along with the wines, an experience of cheeses, vegetables, honey, olives and breads is served - all the fruit of local businesses.
