The special duty team of the Tsuen Wan Police District launched an anti-drug operation. Yesterday (27th) they raided a unit on Ho Pui Street and seized about 18 grams of suspected heroin, 150 tablets of suspected midazolam (commonly known as "The Smurfs"), a batch of Suspected drug packaging tools and about 20,000 yuan in cash, the market value of drugs is about 28,000 yuan.
During the operation, a man surnamed Ye (63 years old) was arrested on suspicion of "running a drug den" and "drug trafficking"; 9 men and 2 women (ages 45 to 75) were arrested for "taking or injecting drugs" and are being detained for investigation.
According to the "Dangerous Drugs Ordinance" Chapter 134 of the Laws of Hong Kong, anyone who traffics in dangerous drugs (trafficking refers to selling or supplying dangerous drugs to others), upon conviction, is liable to a maximum fine of $5 million and life imprisonment; Operating a smoke den, upon conviction, can be fined up to 5 million yuan and imprisoned for 15 years; anyone who possesses a dangerous drug, or smokes, inhales, ingests or injects a dangerous drug, upon conviction, can be sentenced to a maximum fine of 100 million Ten thousand yuan and imprisonment for 7 years.
The police appealed to members of the public not to defy the law.
