The Art Museum of CUHK and Master Chow Tai Fook’s Studio co-organize the exhibition “Crafting the Past and Casting the Present <2>: Ancient Chinese Gold Craftsmanship and Inheritance” exhibiting more than 60 sets of ancient gold artifacts from the Art Museum and private collections of CUHK, as well as Master Chow Tai Fook’s Studio Provides restoration experiments and early Hong Kong gold ornaments, and introduces the gold craftsmanship spanning 3,500 years from multiple perspectives.

The exhibition will be held from now until May 21 at Exhibition Hall 1 of the Art Museum of CUHK. Citizens can enter for free to learn about the development of ancient gold craftsmanship.

According to the CUHK Cultural Relics Officer, the exhibition mainly discusses three types of crafts: gold-silver interlacing, gilt-silver gold, and gold wire production and application, and introduces techniques such as hammer chiseling, casting, and fine gold welding.

This exhibition will display more than 60 sets of ancient gold wares from CUHK Art Museums and private collections, as well as restoration experiments provided by Chow Tai Fook Master Studio and early Hong Kong gold ornaments. Testing, from the perspectives of art history, archaeology, technological testing, restoration experiments, etc., introduces the gold craftsmanship spanning 3,500 years in detail.

Wonderful exhibits include a belt hook inlaid with gold and silver inlaid with turquoise in the late Warring States period, a tripod-style furnace with iron 錽, golden phoenix and bird patterns in the late Ming Dynasty, a gold-step pendant from Xianbei from the third to sixth centuries, and a gold-flowered turquoise bead chain from the Yuan to the early Ming Dynasty Decoration etc.
