Lionel Messi closer to a new brand and a new "The Best" 0:25
(CNN Spanish) --
The 2022 edition of The Best FIFA Awards —which since 2017 have recognized the best soccer players in the world of the year in the male and female branches— took place this Monday at the Salle Pleyel in Paris, France.
In this edition, which was the seventh of The Best Awards, several world-class stars appeared, such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Alex Morgan, Beth Mead, Mary Earps, Emiliano Martínez, Sarina Wiegman, Lionel Scaloni and many more.
The ceremony began with an emotional tribute to Pelé, a Brazilian and world soccer legend who passed away on December 29 at the age of 82.
FIFA gave a special award dedicated to the footballer -the only one who has won three world cups so far-, which was received by his widow, Marcia Aoki.
