The Gal Hirsch affair reaches the Knesset.
MK Ariel Kellner (Likud) will today put forward a proposal for the establishment of a parliamentary investigative committee to investigate the thwarting of the appointment of Brigadier General (Ret.) Gal Hirsch to the position of Police Commissioner.
Reminder: In October 2021, the Taxation and Economic Attorney's Office decided to file an indictment against Hirsch and his two partners in the defense consulting company "Defensive Shield Israel" for alleged tax offenses and bribery.
Hirsch denied all the suspicions, claimed that there were improper motives behind the investigation, and added that he suffered severe legal torture due to the fact that his investigation was conducted more than seven years ago and at the beginning the suspicions against him were much more serious.
In the words of the explanation for his demand, MK Kellner writes: "The investigation case against the candidate for Commissioner Gal Hirsh, which began in August 2015 and which thwarted his candidacy, raises the suspicion of one of the most serious cases of corruption in the history of the state."
According to Kellner, "out of all the noise, after years of judicial torture, in October 2021 a relatively minor indictment was filed on tax issues. The concern is that it is an indictment designed to justify in retrospect the thwarting of his appointment as commissioner.
"Criminal obstruction"
"In February 2018, the claim of the former head of the intelligence division of the Israel Police, Tanat Guy Nir, that Hirsch's appointment was thwarted by senior police officers 'in a manner bordering on criminality' was published.
It is expected that the issue will be fully investigated.
The affair is a big stain on the enforcement system."
