Against the background of the wave of terrorism and the loss of governance in the Negev, the Minister of National Security had to spend a lot of time on the many lawsuits he filed, most of which he represents himself. Among other things, Ben Gabir conducts legal proceedings against citizens, politicians, journalists - and even the police. Some of the defendants claim: these are attempts at silencing

Last weekend, Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gabir appeared at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court for a hearing on the libel suit he filed against Prof. Fanya Oz-Salzberger, a professor at the University of Haifa and the daughter of the writer Amos Oz.

Ben Gvir claims that Oz-Salzberger's tweet during the "Guardian of the Walls" operation, in which she called him "the head of the crime family", is libelous.

On the other hand, Oz-Salzberger claims that this is a legitimate expression of opinion.

"This is my first time in court. I'm afraid of the prosecutor, I'm afraid of his people. Even though I have a defense team, I'm afraid," she said in court.

"The prosecutor verbally attacked me and told a news website in Israel that I lie and distort regularly. I am a historian by profession and this hurts me. I feel very insecure under this silencing lawsuit."

To this Ben Gvir replied: "I thank the defendant. She says I said that she is delusional and afraid and lives in anxiety. She said about me that I am the head of a crime family."

Ben Gvir frequently files defamation lawsuits.

According to the Walla!

compiled using the legal database "The Law Worm" and cross-referenced with data from the "Net Law" system of the courts administration, the minister has been involved in 15 lawsuits in recent years, ten of which are still ongoing.

Most of the lawsuits were filed while Ben Gvir was already an active Knesset member, at the same time he represents himself in most of the lawsuits, so they keep him busy quite a bit.

With all the time in the courts, how does he have time to fight terrorism?

For example, today (Sunday) Ben Gabir will again appear at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court and this time to pre-trial the defamation lawsuit he filed against former Knesset member Stav Shapir.

Ben Gvir claims that Stav's words in an interview with Galach, in which she claimed that the chairman of Otzma Yehudit sent people to threaten her life, constitute defamation.

On the other hand, Shapir's attorney, attorney Karin Toran Hibler, claimed at the last hearing, held in December 2021, that "it is clear that the lawsuit is a silence lawsuit and the plaintiff was not exactly harmed." This is not the first time that Ben Gvir has filed a lawsuit

against Shapir. In 2019, he filed Her grandson and former MK Michal Biran filed a lawsuit alleging that the two called Otzma Yehudit activists "Nazis", the lawsuit was dismissed outright due to the immunity the two had as members of the Knesset.

Biran and Shapir were not the only members of the Knesset that Ben Gvir sued.

In April 2021, the chairman of Otzma Yehudit filed a lawsuit against former Deputy Minister of Economy Yair Golan, which was also rejected due to the immunity Golan had while he was an MK.

"Haaretz" journalist Haim Levinson is also being sued by Ben Gabir, and a hearing on the matter is expected to take place in June.

Ben Gvir claims that "Haaretz" and Levinson published an article against him, according to which he opposed filing a complaint with the police due to an incident of sexual harassment that he knew about.

The Minister of National Security denies the claim.

Tweeters on Twitter also "hijacked" a lawsuit from the minister.

For example, the lawsuit he filed against Shari Zadok Azoulai, for calling him a "Shabbi agent" on Twitter. This case has been transferred to mediation and it is currently unclear what will happen to him.

Right-wing people are also on the call

As part of the defense of his good name, Ben Gabir also files lawsuits against right-wing figures.

For example, the minister filed a defamation lawsuit against Atia Zar, a resident of Samaria who uploaded a post on Facebook on the eve of the 23rd Knesset elections in which she referred to his political moves and his chances of being elected and wondered if Ben Gabir was nothing more than a Shin Bet agent. In response, he filed a defamation lawsuit against her that ended a year and a half later with an apology from her side and a donation of ten thousand shekels to the association.

In February 2020, Ben Gabir sued Gilat Bennett, the wife of former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, for defamation, after she wrote on Facebook on the eve of the 22nd Knesset elections that Otzma Yehudit men broke into her home in Ra'anana and that they Criminals and terrorists. This, in the background of a separate run for the Knesset by the union of the right-wing parties led by Bennett and Ben Gabir's Otzma Yehudit.

Half a year after the filing of the lawsuit, the parties announced that they had reached a settlement agreement outside the walls of the court, in which Bennett published a public apology on Facebook and retracted the allegations against Otzma Yehudit personnel, as well as a sum of money that was transferred to Ben Gabir for "treats" to the IDF soldiers stationed in Hebron.

According to Ben Gvir, this is "quite a lot of money."

Another politician who recently completed a mediation process with Ben Gvir is MK Avigdor Lieberman, who previously hinted that Ben Gvir was a Shin Bet agent, was sued and reached an agreement with the chairman of Otzma Yehudit, the contents of which have not been published. In December 2021, Carol and Eli Kessel were sued by Ben

Gvir After he claimed that during a broadcast on Channel 14 from Bima Square, the two burst into the broadcast and called him derogatory names such as "fascist" and "Nazi". In response to the lawsuit, the two claimed that it was a mistake in the identification and content of the statements attributed to them in the lawsuit. Finally, after two years of legal proceedings, and at the end of litigation Between the walls of a court and outside - the lawsuit was dismissed.

In September 2022, Minister Ben Gabvir sued Ilana Dayan, after the publication of an interview with a former Givat girl, Roni Hanania, during which Ben Gabvir was described, according to him, as a dangerous person who lures minors into criminal acts. Since the filing of the lawsuit and with His appointment as minister of the case was transferred to a mediation process and a new lawyer was appointed to represent Ben Gabir in the process.

Right-wing people are also suing.

That same month, the minister sued Ricky Rutter for defamation, after a loud confrontation between the two at Blich school in Ramat Gan, in which she claimed that he had hurt the soldiers and he replied that she was lying.

Later, Rotter accused that she was a witness, as an MGB fighter, to events in which Ben Gabir encouraged provocations against soldiers by means of minors. Rotter, for her part, claims that this is a silence lawsuit and a hearing has not yet taken place in the proceedings. who represented him in the proceedings, was replaced by another attorney.

A month later, Ben Gabir sued Zehava Galon for defamation, after a series of posts by her on social media ahead of the Knesset elections in which she shared footage of masked men throwing stones, while noting that "Ben's military arm Gabir launches an organized attack against farmers.

It is a terrorist organization for all intents and purposes.

They will come with the stones and grenades to every house in Israel where there are Arabs, leftists or LGBT people."

In the same month, journalist Iyad Harev, 11, who was attacked by Jews during riots in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, was sued that same month, and claimed during a television broadcast that he sought the help of MK Ben Gabir, who came to the scene in locating the phone that was stolen from him by the attackers, and he replied, "I came here because They attacked Jews." In the documentation he attached to the lawsuit, it emerged that Ben Gabvir said, among other things, "I will try to help you check this." In a warning letter prior to the lawsuit, Ben Gabvir accused Harev that "your actions caused and will cause me tremendous damage in front of the Druze community with whom I am known to have good relations." .

Also against the body for which he is responsible: the lawsuits against the police

Other lawsuits that Ben Gavir is managing are against the body he trusts today - the police.

Walla's investigation reveals that there are at least two lawsuits pending against her.

One is against the loss of the life of Shimon the Tzadik, according to his claim, and the second is for blocking Ben Gabir's entry to the Nablus Gate at a time when former Prime Minister Bennett ordered the police to prevent him from going up to the Wall through the Nablus Gate in a flag march that took place on the Passover holiday. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gabir said in

response : "We are sorry to disappoint, but the information that came from a trending source is wrong.

The minister does not represent himself in most lawsuits and in any case works 20 hours a day - so compared to the previous minister who worked six hours a day, the minister can manage another 20 lawsuits by himself and will have enough time left.

Just yesterday the minister brought an achievement that has never been recorded in the Ministry of Internal Security.

It comes from working 24/7."
