The Department of Health stated tonight (27th) that the Expert Committee on Clinical Event Evaluation of the New Crown Vaccine held a meeting today. A causal relationship with vaccination was established, and one case was preliminarily considered to be unrelated to vaccination.

Of the two deaths for which a causal relationship with the vaccination could not be established, one involved an 83-year-old man who died five days after receiving the first dose of the Sinovac vaccine in May 2022.
The 83-year-old man's preliminary autopsy revealed ischemic heart disease, and the cause of death indicated by the comprehensive autopsy report appeared to be acute myocarditis.
After investigation, the cause of acute myocarditis in the above-mentioned 83-year-old man was not found. Because the current literature and overseas data have no evidence that the vaccination can cause myocarditis. The research conducted also did not find any association between Sinovac vaccine and myocarditis.
Based on available information, the Expert Committee concluded that a causal relationship between the deaths and the vaccination could not be established.
The other case was announced as early as June last year, involving a 74-year-old man who passed away on the same day after receiving the first dose of Fubita vaccine in November 2021.
According to the government, as of February 26, Hong Kong citizens have received a total of about 20.7 million doses of the new crown vaccine, and about 6.9 million citizens have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
