Severe weather continued to batter swathes of the United States Monday, with some 230,000 customers waking up without power across the country from California to Michigan, while tornadoes raged overnight in parts of the Midwest.

Some areas of

Oklahoma

were under tornado watches until early Monday morning, and multiple storms were reported across the state.

The Norman National Weather Service reported that

at least one tornado had been confirmed.

In this state, thousands of people lost power due to inclement weather, and more than 24,000 customers were still without power as of early Monday, according to outage tracking website PowerOutage.us.

According to the website, power outages were also recorded for thousands of utility customers in the neighboring states of Texas and Missouri.

The National Weather Service warned that dry and windy surface conditions were expected to add to an

elevated fire risk

in parts of southeastern Colorado, the Oklahoma/Texas Panhandles, eastern New Mexico and as far as the Big Bend of Texas on Monday.

Snow, rain and possible tornadoes

While the central states of the country deal with the aftermath of the bad weather, other parts of the country face snow, rain, high winds and possible tornadoes this week.

"A deep mid-latitude cyclone will spread showers and storms across the Ohio Valley and into the Mid-Atlantic," the National Weather Service reported Monday.

The Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe

Thunderstorm

Warning for parts of the Ohio Valley due to the risk of potentially damaging gusts "and a few tornadoes."

Meanwhile, a “snow and ice band is expected to spread across the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast today as a secondary low pressure system develops and the pair of surface waves drift slowly toward the east coast," he added.

No power in Michigan

In Michigan, thousands of residents have been without power for days following last week's brutal ice storm.

As of early Monday morning, more than 130,000 utility customers were still without power, according to outage tracking website PowerOutage.us.

DTE Energy and Consumers Energy, the state's two largest utilities, have said they are working to restore power to homes across the state.

“Thanks to another day of work, our more than 2,000 workers have restored power to most customers who lost power due to a half-inch layer of ice,” Consumers Energy said on Twitter on Sunday.

In some areas of California where it never snows, up to 5 inches have accumulated.

California faces more snowfall

In California, which faced rare blizzard warnings last week, more than 46,000 utility customers were without power Monday morning, even as many across the state got a respite from adverse conditions Sunday.

The state faced a new high-altitude rain and snow system through Monday, however, with heavy snow expected in some areas this week, the National Weather Service said Monday.

“Mountains from southern Oregon to central California will see the greatest impacts with heavy snow rates in excess of 2 inches per hour at times and additional snowfall of 4-7 feet along the Sierra Nevada,” said the meteorologic service.

"Combined with high winds, blizzard conditions and dangerous to impossible travel are expected," he said.

Those planning to travel by road at elevations above 1,000 feet through the West Coast states were urged to “be prepared for rapidly changing conditions” and have winter driving supplies.

"Heavy snowfall will reach as far east as the Colorado Rocky Mountains and as far south as northern Arizona, where hazardous travel conditions are expected Tuesday and Wednesday," the weather service said.
