Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived today (Monday) for a visit to Damascus, the first visit by an Egyptian foreign minister to Syria since the outbreak of the war in 2011.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cairo, the visit to Syria, and also to Turkey, is intended to "convey a message of solidarity from Egypt to the two countries" that were severely affected by the deadly earthquake at the beginning of the month.
Turkey's Foreign Ministry confirmed the visit and said that Shukri will meet with his Turkish counterpart from Blot Çebusului and visit the Adana province and the port of Mersin, where an Egyptian aid ship is due to arrive.
