Munich – The winter weather is back in Germany.

At the end of February there was still snow for all winter fans.

Up to 15 centimeters of snow fell on the Kahler Asten in the Sauerland in North Rhine-Westphalia on Saturday night.

Some toboggan runs were open in the Harz Mountains.

In Bavaria it snowed up to 17 centimeters of fresh snow on the Irschenberg.

"It's snowing everywhere," they said before the weekend.

Heavy snowfall and sometimes mirror-smooth roads surprised some car and truck drivers anyway.

Onset of winter in Germany: slippery roads and snow cause chaos on the streets

Heavy snowfall temporarily brought traffic on Autobahn 72 in south-west Saxony to a standstill.

Several trucks remained on the completely snow-covered road between Zwickau-Ost and Hartenstein on Sunday night.

A truck slid into the crash barrier, but was later able to continue driving.

The Technical Relief Organization helped with heavy vehicles to tow the stranded trucks free.

The autobahn towards Leipzig was closed for around two and a half hours in the evening for the rescue work, the police said.

Initially, no injuries were reported on the A72.

Weather forecast for the beginning of March: "Scandinavia Föhn" ensures sunshine

It's supposed to snow in the Alps until Monday.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), up to 10 centimeters of fresh snow can occasionally come together.

The DWD expects 2 to 5 centimeters of snow to spread.

There is also prolonged snowfall in the Ore Mountains.

According to the DWD weather experts, there is often permafrost in the mountains at -3 to 0 degrees, otherwise there are maximum temperatures of 0 to 6 degrees.

"Next week we will first have to deal with high-pressure weather," explains meteorologist Georg Haas from

wetter.com

.

It will stay dry and sunny.

However, there are large temperature fluctuations between the nights and the relatively mild temperatures during the day, Haas explains in a video.

"The high pressure area is over the British Isles, while at the same time the Scandinavian foehn ensures dry conditions." Precipitation was falling in the north dam of the Norwegian mountains and would hardly reach us, if at all.

The storm low in the western Mediterranean plays no role in Germany.

However, according to the DWD, a stormy northeast wind in the southwest is an issue on Monday.

In the Black Forest there are sometimes heavy gusts of wind.

According to the DWD, dry polar air is increasingly flowing to Germany.

Under the influence of high pressure, it gets cold at night and milder only hesitantly during the day.

According to the DWD weather experts, Tuesday and Wednesday will remain mostly dry with lots of sunshine.

The maximum values during the day are 0 to 7 degrees.

At night, on the other hand, it is cold, with values down to minus 10 degrees locally.

Icy weather prospects for Germany - polar low

On Thursday and Friday moister air will move in from the north towards Germany.

It remains to be seen whether a new deep spur will then reach us.

"A polar low centered over the Baltic Sea and humid North Sea air will bring snow, ice and smoothness," predicts meteorologist Haas from

wetter.com

.

Arctic cold air from the north is 80 percent possible according to the current trend forecast.

Spring-like (20 percent possible) - it probably won't be.
