In all, 950 days of filming were counted there in 2022, including 847 in the Rhône-Alpes region alone.
A figure still down from 2021 when 1,210 days of filming had been recorded due to post-Covid catch-up.
Large spaces and savings
Regarding feature films (346 days), Savoie (with 92 days) tops the number of shooting days ahead of the Rhône (72 days) and Haute-Savoie (56 days).
In all, 18 feature films were shot in the region in 2022 compared to 24 the previous year.
Among the main regional shoots are
Anatomy of a fall
by Justine Triet,
Simple things
by Eric Besnard,
High school student
by Christophe Honoré,
BDE
by Michaël Youn,
10 days of mother
by Ludovic Bernard or
The 11 lives of Abbé Pierre
by Frédéric Tellie.
The TV series represented 371 days of filming, including 104 in Haute-Savoie and 116 in the Rhône department.
According to Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes cinema, the region is benefiting greatly from the Covid effect with more and more projects taking place “
in large natural spaces and in particular in the mountains
”.
The cost of filming in a period of constrained budgets for productions also affects the attractiveness of the region.
“
There is a difference with Paris.
In Lyon, for example, unlike the capital, the city does not charge for the occupation of public space.
However, the difference in prices is not as significant as one might think
, ”explains Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes cinema.
Lyon also has the advantage of offering a wide variety of decor (medieval, Haussmann) but also a very quickly accessible nature.
In 2022, cinema represented nine million euros in economic benefits for the region and TV series eighteen million euros.
Each year, more than six million euros are allocated to financing the co-production of feature films, short films and documentaries.
