"On no other program, there is such a follow-up": how TF1 and the production protect the candidates of "Koh-Lanta" victims of hateful messages?

The channel and Adventure Line Productions have set up all the support for adventurers who would be the target of abusive comments on social networks.

For several years, some candidates from

"Koh-Lanta"

have been the target of insults and threats on social networks.

In 2017, the outspokenness of Clémentine Jullien had displeased and earned the adventurer a flood of criticism to the point that

Denis Brogniart

had spoken up in his defense.

In 2021, Coumba Baradji announced his intention to file a complaint following violent messages on the sidelines of the broadcast of "Koh-Lanta, the legend".

A few days later, Christelle Gauzet, threatened with death, revealed that she had started legal proceedings.

Again, Adventure Line Productions had issued a press release to denounce

“this kind of behavior”

This is the reason why the production and TF1 have set up a whole accompaniment.

“Adventurers don't necessarily want to be influencers.

These are people who arrive with a certain naivety.

Most, moreover, have social networks only in the context of family or friends, but they do not expect to be subject to a lot of things on social networks

, ”explains Alexia Laroche-Joubert.

To help them, the channel and the production company prepare the candidates for “Koh-Lanta”.

“There is a whole job of psychological preparation and awareness of the impact of notoriety and what will result from it on social networks.

I say it often: there are 99.9% of membership comments from people who support them, it's a torrent of love, and there are unfortunately 0.1% of assholes, ”

laments the producer.

"They are followed throughout the season and even after"

Alexia Laroche-Joubert, producer of "Koh-Lanta"

At the end of filming, all the adventurers are welcomed at the airport and brought directly to the premises of TF1

"to brief them on their return to real life and on everything that will happen during the broadcast of the emission”

, assures Rémi Faure, director of flow programs for the TF1 group.

Before the broadcast of each episode, they are called.

“We explain to them what is shown and we put our finger on what could potentially trigger epidermal reactions.

We describe to them everything that will happen so they are prepared.

And they are followed throughout the entire season and even after

,” adds Alexia Laroche-Joubert.

In recent years, faced with the rise of hate messages, TF1 has made software available to candidates.

“It's a solution to protect their accounts.

A system called Bodyguard that destroys messages from haters and negative comments before they are even read.

We do not impose on them but they have the possibility of using it

, ”says Rémi Faure.

If despite everything, some messages get through, ALP accompanies adventurers wishing to file a complaint.

“We explain the whole process to them because we, as a legal entity, cannot go to court.

It is a decision on the one hand intimate and on the other hand personal.

On the other hand, we do not hesitate to make reports to the prosecutor

.

"We always take our pilgrim's staff to condemn what could go beyond the frame"

Denis Brogniart, host of "Koh-Lanta"

For his part, Denis Brogniart, very active on social networks, also makes himself available to candidates and does not hesitate to step up if necessary.

“We always take our pilgrim's staff to condemn what could go beyond the frame.

Criticism is also part of “Koh-Lanta”, we may not agree with this or that way of proceeding but there is a way to say it.

When someone is insulting, degrading, moreover anonymously – the most total cowardice – we are obviously behind the adventurers, ”

insists the host.

And Rémi Faure to conclude:

“The adventurers of “Koh-Lanta” are hyper accompanied, they are not released into nature.

On no other program, there is such follow-up of the participants
