The Elam association started crowdfunding to build a new center for street children in Jerusalem • The previous center was completely destroyed in a fire

The center for homeless young women in Jerusalem was completely burned down, and the "Elam" association started a mass mobilization to prepare a new building.

The Gilgal center, the center for homeless young women operated by the Elam association, in cooperation with the Jerusalem Municipality and the Ministry of Welfare and Social Security, for young women aged 18-26, was completely burned down in a large fire that broke out about two weeks ago near Bikur Hospital in Jerusalem, during which Bikur's maternity ward was also evacuated. patients.

Miraculously, there were no injuries in the incident, and several tenants were t-shirts by the fire fighters.

The sad result is the complete destruction of the place, which has been used for years as an anchor and a place of refuge for young women who are fighting for their survival.

After an inspection, it became clear that the place could not be reused, and the Elam association began looking for an alternative place.

Such a place has been found, and now the association has started a crowdfunding campaign with the aim of making the new building suitable for living.

The goal of the campaign is a quarter of a million shekels.

Maya Baron, Head of End Services at the Elam Association: "In one moment the place, which was a safe place for homeless young women, caught fire, and ironically they were once again left homeless. The young women, along with the staff, fled the thick smoke - with the little equipment they had already gone.

"At zero time we organized to build a temporary roof, and now we want to build them a new, protected, stable and safe roof, a house that they will once again have as an anchor, a refuge, a safe corner of the world, where they can let go of survival."

"Gilgal Center" provides emergency accommodation and a roof over a roof to about 100 street-level young women each year, and provides each young woman with ongoing personal and group support.

The place, which is a real life-saving project for transparent young women on the fringes of society, provides a 24/7 response.
