An Iranian parliamentary delegation arrived in Damascus this evening, headed by Dr. Abbas Kalro, Vice President of the Syrian Parliamentary Friendship Association, to stand by the Syrian people in facing the repercussions of the devastating earthquake that struck some Syrian provinces recently.
In a statement to SANA reporter, the vice-president of the association confirmed upon his arrival at Damascus International Airport that this visit comes to assist in the relief process for the affected areas and to contribute to strengthening and documenting joint parliamentary relations and striving to activate cooperation agreements, especially in the economic field.
Kalro pointed out that the Iranian Shura Council and the Syrian People's Assembly held many joint meetings during the past two years to develop parliamentary work, and during this visit they will be followed up with Syrian officials in order to strengthen relations between the two sides.
For her part, the deputy head of the Syrian-Iranian Parliamentary Friendship Committee, Dr. Haifa Jumaa, indicated in a similar statement that Iran provided all kinds of support to the Syrian people, and sent delegations and relief aid to those affected by the earthquake, and the two sides look forward to developing and strengthening parliamentary relations.
The Iranian delegation was received by the Iranian ambassador to Syria, Mahdi Sobhani, and a number of members of the Syrian People's Assembly.
