About 100 families and volunteers held activities and guided tours today (Tuesday) at three sites that are accessible to people with disabilities, this on the occasion of World Rare Disease Day that took place today.

Leon Romantsuk, a tour guide of the Ministry of Tourism, said: "Ein Gedi is a nature reserve that is heavily traveled throughout the year, which is visited by hundreds of thousands of travelers from Israel and the world. I was happy to meet with families who face many challenges and tell them about the uniqueness of the reserve, and let them enjoy nature." .

The Barak family, who participated in the tour of Apollonia National Park, said that this was a very special opportunity for them: "Every day, it's more challenging to go on a walk in nature, that's why we were happy about the initiative for rare families to go out into nature."

Royat Shani, founder and CEO of the "Ori" association, said: There are approximately 8,000 rare diseases in the world and in Israel there are approximately 500,000 patients. I see the importance of raising awareness of the issue of rare diseases. "Ori" is an association to support families of patients with rare mitochondrial diseases that was established in 2007 in order to help patients and their families with the special challenges. The name 'rare diseases' is misleading - although these are diseases whose prevalence is low in relation to the size of the population, but in total there are about half a million patients in Israel and about 500 million patients in the world. I see the value of equality as important ".
